Thank you for submitting your Protective Order Application with the Bexar County District Attorney's Office.
Below is a step by step guide for what to expect next.
Step 1:
Fill out the online application with as much information as possible.
Step 2:
The Protective Order Unit is part of the Bexar County Family Justice Center. Everyone seeking protective order assistance must go through the Family Justice Center’s intake process, which is conducted by a Crime Victim Liaison. Therefore, if you did not go through the intake process prior to submitting this protective order application, you will be contacted by a crime victim liaison when the online application is received by our office.
Step 3:
During the intake process the crime victim liaison will go over the follow with you:
-administer a danger assessment to help you understand your current level of risk,
-safety plan with you,
-discuss the other services available to you at the Family Justice Center, and;
-assist you with the next steps of the application process.
Step 4:
Anyone seeking protective order assistance must also go through an interview with a protective order advocate. During the interview, the advocate will prepare your statement based on the information provided in the application and during the interview.
Step 5:
Once the advocate has compiled the information for your case, it will be reviewed by a protective order prosecutor. You will be notified within 2 to 3 weeks if your case has been accepted. If accepted, the District Attorney’s Office will begin the legal process of seeking a civil protective order from a judge. Under the law, only a judge can issue a protective order.
